It’s the first virtual race I’ve completed in three years, and I’m very proud of myself! Now, I could’ve cheated. They don’t check on your entries or anything, this is taken as a trust thing, but I didn’t. I did think about it for a moment today as I was making myself walk the last quarter of the mile goal I needed to finish the race, but I didn’t want to end it that way. I’d be upset with myself for it.
You’re probally thinking I was being a wuss for not wanting to walk that last bit, but it took me all day to get that far. I walk nearly two miles a day when I work but on my days off, I’m very sedentary. I spend most of my time listening to music and writing, or crocheting and watching television. I don’t do a great deal of walking.
Since I began the race almost two weeks ago, I make myself walk on my days off – even if it’s just around my apartment. Tonight, I walked a complete tour around the edges of my living room and kitchen and down the short hall to my front door and back, going round and round until I got the distance I was shooting for.
My goal is one mile, and I’m going to keep hitting it even though I won’t be starting another race until the second week of February when I have the money for the next race I want to start. It costs about $25 American, and it’s around 23 miles long. I might choose another, but this one is the one I’m looking at right now.

I have never in my entire 49, almost 50, years of life served on a jury of any kind. I’ve never gotten a grand jury summons before. Why? Apparently, school age people, including college students, can’t sit on a grand jury. The excuse is the course loads and class times. Be that as it may, I received a grand jury summons, and I went to the Polk County Judicial Center today to anwer it.
I was nervous. I didn’t want to get picked but then again, I did. I was half asleep from having to work until midnight Thursday night and not being able to sleep when I got home – for a lot of reasons. The judge went over all the rules and guidelines, read over what could disqualify us for duty and what other excemptions could be used to get us out of serving. I just waited,
Finally, the cards with our names and contact information were shuffled and 16 cards were drawn: 12 jurors and 4 alternates. I was not only the second person chosen, I was made assistant foreman – in case something happened to the main foreman. We were all sworn in, introduced to the prosecutors who would be presenting their cases to us and were given last minute intructions.
The judge then left, and the DA for the county started the ball rolling. My main job is to listen to the cases presented and, based on what information I’m given(along with the rest of the jury), I’m supposed to decide two things: 1) is there enough evidence to move forward to trual or 2) there’s not enough evidence, the prosecutor needs to go get us more.
We went through 48 cases, and all but 2 were moved on to trial. I learned a lot about our judicial system as it pertains to my county. It was a pleasant experience, and I have to go back again next month. I’m looking forward to it.

I am now half way through my virtual walking race on Yes Fit! I’m logging in a little over a mile every day – mostly at work – and I log in my steps for the day when I get home from work. I’ve been looking at Google Map to see where I am along the route when it updates my progress. 🙂
Currently, my virtual self is on New Road in Boscastle, England. It looks like a lovely little town, and I’m putting it on my bucket list of places to see when I get my passport and can travel abroad. I’m also adding another town my virtual self has passed through called Crackington Haven.
I have 11 miles out of 23.2 left to go, and I’ll keep at it until I’ve gone all the way! My virtual self will be turning on right onto a road that should lead me all the way to Tintagel over the course of next week , week and a half. 🙂
This race has gotten me more active, and I’m feeling quite good about my progress. I actually want to get up and get moving more, and that’s good for my health. I hope this will encourage you to try something, anything, to get moving too. I get a medal once the race is complete – part of the price of the race, and I might order the shirt too. I haven’t decided on that yet. 🙂

Well I did say I’d post how I was progressing in this race. For those of you who haven’t read my first update for the year, I joined a virtual race on YesFit called King Arthur. The route leads us virtually along the rugged of Cornwall to Tintagel, and there’s a map to show your virtual progress as well as the areas around the race.
I started the race on 9 January, 2020, and I’ve walked every day, recording the total from my pedometer into the dashboard as well as the time it took and how many calories I burned during each walk. The race can be synched to most pedometer devices and many apps so you don’t have to enter manually like I’ve been doing. Easy as pie!
So, what’s my progress? I’ve walked 3. 5 miles out of 23.2 meaning I have 19.7 miles to go. I’ve left the starting point and have gone through an area called Drizzard on my way to Crackington Haven. I’m virtually traveling what appears to be a main road, but there’s no markers on my map. I’m going to try Google Maps to see where I am, and I’ll post that later today – it’s a but early in the morning to be doing research.
