So Far in 2020: Personal Update

I have no idea why anyone cares about my personal updates, but I’m posting one anyway just because I can. 🙂

I’ve been reading and listening to audio books. I don’t know why I resisted that trend, but I’m quite pleased to be on the bandwagon now. I use Audible, and I’m happy to share my finds with anyone who needs suggestions on what to listen to. Currently, I’m listening to a book on marketing written by Joanna Penn. She’s good, and I’m enjoying the narrator very much.

As far as reading goes, I’ve been reading an interesting book that I’m only about halfway through because of my hectic life. I’ve been implementing some of the interesting self help techniques I’ve found in it as well. One such tip is scheduling my entire day around physical movement rather than on specific tasks, and I change the times I do certain things as well. Why? To avoid getting into a rut which would make things dull, boring and a thing to be avoided rather than looked forward to with excitement. I don’t schedule things such as : write 300 words. Instead, I simply schedule : write. Then, I can work on anything that involves writing – such as this blog post. I’ve become a great deal more productive and look forward to the tasks listed. I’ve been keeping to the schedule since the beginning of the year as well. 🙂

Work is work. I’m working at a meat processing plant working the night shift. I live about 45 minutes from the plant depending on traffic. I live off a main highway close to the edge of town so traffic can be fun at times. I’ve been at my job almost 7 months now. It’s an okay job – it pays the bills. I’ve refocused myself though because I was almost killing myself doing overtime. I don’t need to do that to survive, but I allowed one of my co workers to convince me I did. They don’t have a life, or goals, outside of work I’ve come to realize, and I do so, I’ve changed my mind on how I work and live. I don’t want to work at the plant the rest of my life so I’m focusing on other things which I feel are more important to my future.

I’m investing for the first time in my life too. Financial investing. I’m using Robinhood which finds and curates eco friendly/people friendly companies to invest in. They handle all the business side, all you do is choose a stock to invest in. I’ve found it to be quite simple to use. Fitness. Ugh, don’t get me started on this! I’ve considered overweight for my height and age. I am about 158 pounds US, and I’m 5 foot 1. I’m almost 50 as well. So far, no issues with my heart or diabetes so there’s that. There’s also the sad fact my beloved can’t pick me up – I’m too heavy for him…. So what am I doing about it? I’m walking for starters. I’ve joined a lovely site called YesFit! and I’ve joined one of the virtual races they have going on just today. It’s called the King Arthur and is 23.2 miles roughly. I’ll report my progress I promise! Join me if you like, it’s all in good fun! I bet I beat you!

Well, time to get off to work. See you on the flipside and don’t forget your towel and sonic screwdriver!!
