Guru.com – Freelancing

I’d written a post about my experience with Textbroker, a freelance writing site I’ve had a lot of good work from. They post article writing jobs mostly, but the subjects vary a great deal. I’m still writing for them on almost a daily basis.

Guru is a freelancing site offering a wide variety of jobs like web design, photography, writing and a great deal more. The set up is a bit of a trial, but it’s well worth the effort. Getting jobs isn’t as easy as Textbroker either – you don’t just pick a job, do it and hope it gets accepted.

On Guru, you find a job you want and submit a quote for it. Free members only get so many a month and then, you have to pay for more. Quotes – not jobs. The job list is always available to look at. There are a lot of users on Guru so some jobs have more quotes submitted than others. It can take a while to get an employer to notice you if you’re not a premium member.

It’s taken me a couple of months of putting in quotes to get noticed. I wasn’t doing it all the time to be honest, but I put more effort into it in the last week or so. I was talking to two potential employers over the last few days, and one of them hired me today. 🙂

I highly recommend checking out the site just to see what it’s like. Who knows, you might see a job you want to try for.

I Saw a Cardinal…

… sitting on a high voltage wire behind my apartment complex yesterday and today, I saw a red headed woodpecker pecking on the pole the wire was attached to.

My apartments back onto a wooded area split by a railroad track. A freight train runs through there from time to time. I enjoy getting up early with Mimi and sitting on a chair outside my back door. I have a tiny little yard, if you want to call it that, but it’s big enough to sit outside and enjoy coffee.

Mimi goes out twice a day when I’m not working and once a day when I am. She stays close, she eats the wild onions for her digestion. She’s a long haired cat who keeps herself well groomed. I feed her food with the indoor cat formula to help her with hairballs, but she still eats the grass. I don’t mind. It’s soothing watching her outside along with listening to the birds.

I haven’t seen any other wildlife around, but that could be because the neighbor’s dogs roam about at different times of the day and night. They shy away from Mimi, and she just hunkers down next to me to watch them. She’s a three year old rescue so I’m not sure if she’s ever seen a dog before. The dogs, well used to the mean ferals that come through from time to time, leaver her alone.

It’s not as nice as the house my gentleman friend has in the country, but it’s still nice.

The Limehouse Golem – Movie Review

This movie is a Victorian era horror movie starring Bill Nighy and Olivia Cooke, among others.

It’s a fantastic movie. The creep factor is high, but it adds to it. The movie shows the reality of the society in that era. At one point, there was a little Irish girl who spoke only Gaelic. She was a witness to one of the murders, and she was being brought to speak to the police without understanding what was going on. The detective was using a nun to translate, and the little girl told her to tell him she wasn’t for sale. She said her mother had a gentleman coming for her on her next birthday. That was the reality of the lives of the poor of that era.

It’s this attention to detail that made this movie so good! The acting was superb as well. It has a fine cast. The story was well written, and the action was engrossing. Yes, I really liked the movie.

I give this movie five stars and strongly recommend it. I found it on Hulu.com, but it’s also on Amazon, VUDU and iTunes. Don’t take my word for it, of course, see it for yourself!

New Page – Creations

I have added a new page where I will be showcasing the things I make. All items are one offs unless you ask for more than one to be made. I lost my job because the company I was working for shut down for good. They couldn’t handle the financial losses they were taking. All sales from my creations will be used to help support me as I look for other work. Thank you for your support.

Also, buying my book, in any of its forms would go far in helping me out financially as well. You can find my book in print, ebook and audio on Amazon.com:

Even if you don’t buy, please share this with those of your friends who might enjoy it. Thank you again for your support.

All Done

I had thought to have a shop on here as well as my blog, but the app being used for the ecommerce bit isn’t user friendly – me being the user. I just don’t care for how it’s set up so, I’m not going to use it. I am, however, going to set up a page with pictures of things I’ve made and wish to sell. I accept Paypal and Venmo at this time. I’ll tell you more on the page when it’s set up.

The blog itself is all customized and ready for use so I’ll be posting more often than before. I won’t be posting on the blog over on WordPress.com so don’t expect any updates on that one. I’m far happier with this set up, especially the ability to monetize the blog without having to pay the host a share as well as pay a monthly fee.

I hope you all have a wonderful night/day wherever in the world you are.

.Com to .Org

I have moved my blog from WordPress.com to WordPress.org. The domain name I chose is being assigned as we speak and once the whole thing is active, I’ll be posting it here. I am also setting up a store so I can sell my books and anything else I think my readers might enjoy. Please stay with me. I’ll also be setting up a way for everyone here to be able to follow me still. If, after I’ve gone live, you can’t see any of my new posts, please let me know.

Personal Update July 9, 2020

I’ve decided to move my blog from WordPress.com to WordPress.org because I’m going to have a lot more freedom developing and, hopefully, growing this blog. This is my first post on the new site. My domain name is not the one I chose – a glitch caused it to be, and I can’t change it now. I hope to be able to do so when it comes time to renew my account so, we’ll see.

I quit my job at the meat packing plant back in April, and I got a job a short time later working at a truck stop. That was a nightmare, and I quit it today because I couldn’t deal with it any longer.

Last week, I got my license as a Plumber’s Helped and a license as an Apprentice Electrician. I’d hope to find a job in the electrical field, but it looks like a plumbing company might hire me first. Either field will suit me just fine.

Golden Knave is coming along slowly still. I did finish Kitya’s side of the story, but I haven’t had a chance to work on Vice’s side yet. I will get it done before the year is out.

Other than that, not much else has happened in my life worth reporting. I will be sharing more projects I’ve finished. I’ll be listing the ones for sale in my shop that will be linked to this blog. I hope you’ll stop by there to at least have a look-see.
