30 Days of NaNoWriMo – Day 22

I had a great day writing today!! I got 2000 words and two entire scenes done!! I am now up to 55, 835 words!! Less than 5000 words to go!

I start my new job tomorrow so I am going to try to write and post about it before work. I’m on a roll now so I’m pretty sure I can get my goal reached by the end of the month!

This year’s event has been a great experience so far. I was able to stay focused and make the event goal early which was a great booster for my self confidence! Now, with the inspiration I’m getting from all the write-ins and writing prompts from the NaNo staff and others, I’m going to reach my personal goal as well! 2020 turned out to be a great year for my writing after all!

30 Days of NaNoWriMo – Day 20 and Day 21!

Day 20

I had Grand Jury yesterday, and we were in session for nearly 12 hours trying to get caught up on the caseload for the prosecutors. I didn’t get a chance to blog but during the lunch break, I did manage to write 500 words for the next scene I’m adding to the story. That brought my total up to 52, 835.

Day 21!!! End of Week 3!!

I did great today – managed to get another 1000 words written! I’m closing in on my goal of 60,000 words!! I am so excited!! I’ll have to work extra hard tomorrow because Monday, I start work, and they’ve put me on 2d shift instead of 1st. This means I’m working from 2:45p to 10:45p. I’ll have to juggle my personal schedule around to make time for my writing.

Wish my luck and lollipops on my final day!!

30 Days of NaNoWriMo – Day 18

Today, I was writing by hand and not on the computer. Why? I was busy crafting a new scene. The idea came to me when I was reading over the chapter I’m currently working on. It seemed a bit bland to me so, I decided to do a little bit of a flashback.

It’s not finished as I ran into some issues of how to make the interactions in the scene believable. Since this is set in a more modern time, I want how people talk to each other and react to each other be something people can relate to. I want them to believe two women sniping at each other and some other stuff could actually happen.

I maaged to get 500 good words in the bag, I told it I ran into some issues. I rewrote the beginning of the scene at least twice and kept editing as I wrote because it just wasn’t flowing. I’ll start again tomorrow and see how it goes then. I need at least 1500 words to get the word count for this chapter where it needs to be.

Till tomorrow, see you on the flipside and don’t forget your towel and sonic screwdriver!

30 Days of NaNoWriMo – Day 17

While I only added 534 words to my overall count, I did a great deal of other work to the novel so I still feel like I had a productive day.

I double checked to make sure all my paragraph indents were the same -1/2 an inch from the margin. I also made sure all the text was the same size and font – I don’t want formatting issues with this book as I am having with Crimson Knight. I’ve also split another chapter into two creating 18 chapters so far. I’d like to have 25 chapters with no less than 2,000 words each. Some of my currently beefed up chapters have around 3,000 words so I’m still confident I can reach my goal of 60,000 words by the end of the month.

The story is still evolving even as I complete the final draft of this novel, fleshing out the parts that were anemic as well as adding flavor to those parts that were bland. I’m going to be almost completely rewriting one scene because I want to a better job at showing and not telling. It’s in need of flavoring and leavening without using a bunch of junk filler. The ending is also going to change. It’s always been meant to be a cliffhanger ending, but the way it’s actually going to end is changing because I got a better idea for it.

It’s a good thing too because I was having a hell of a time trying to think how to start the next book. It’ll be easier now. 🙂

30 Days of NaNoWriMo – Day 16

Things have been so busy around here I kept getting disturbed and called away while I was trying to write. It was so annoying I finally gave up trying to write. I manage to get 200 words I actually liked added to the overall count which I forgot to write down before I began this post. I think it’s around 50,201 or so. I am not happy with this progress, but there was nothing I could do about it.

I’m not going to try to write later tonight because company is over. I am staying with my son and his roommate so I can’t tell people to keep it down when they have compay over – it’s not my house. There’s very little I can do about the noise though I have tried because it’s a small, older house with thin walls.

I’ll just try again tomorrow and if I only get another 200, at least I’m still adding to the goal. I will get it too, it’s just going to take longer than I’d planned.

30 Days of NaNoWriMo – Day 15: Goal!!

I only wrote about 916 words today, but I hit the NaNoWriMo goal of 50,000 words! Yay!!

Now, I just have to hit my personal goal of 60,000 to actually complete the event to my satisfaction. In order to do this, I have to start editing and rearranging. I’ve begun splitting up chapters, and I’m trying to make each one at least 2,000 words each. I had 14 chapters to begin with, and I’d like to get between 28 and 30 by the time I’m done.

I already have scenes I’m planning to add, and I am changing the ending as, thanks to one of the write-ins I attended last week. I am looking forward to completing this challenge!! Wish me luck and lollipops!!

30 Days of NaNoWriMo – Day 13 and Day 14

Due to personal issues dealing with other people’s issues, I wasn’t able to post yesterday. I also wasn’t able to attend the write-ins for yesterday or today. I’m displeased by this because I really enjoy the live chat during these sessions. On to my posts.

13 Nov

Yesterday’s word count was only 2,072. I had to make myself write in spite of everything I

was dealing with. I’m not allowing anything to keep me from finishing this event like I did last year. My overall total is now 46,579. I’m projected to complete my NaNo goal of 50,000 by Monday.

14 Nov – Halfway Point!!

Today is the end of the second week of November and thus, NaNoWriMo!! Most of my writing buddies who were behind have caught up or nearly so. Others, like me, are flying far ahead. Still more are right on track. As long as none of us lets our Inner Critic or Inner Editor(or both) out, we’ll complete this event together.

My word count for today is 2506 due to still having to deal with things I’d rather not but have to. This brings my overall total to 49,085. Not bad, I’ll complete the NaNo goal on Sunday instead of Monday – tomorrow. Thing is, I’m at the end of the story – the original ending. So, what am I going to do?? I have to not only finish the NaNoWriMo event, I need to hit my personal goal of 60,000 words!!

I’m going to let my Inner Editor out of the closet I threw them into at the beginning of the month, untie them, ungag them and put them to work. I already have plans for a new ending, but there’s more work to be done than that. It may take me another week or two to hit my personal goal, but I am going to do it!!

On a side note:

A friend of my yougest son is going to be doing the cover art for The Inbetween, the name of the novel I’m working on. We’ve discussed it, and I’m going to let her read the story before she begins the work so she can get an idea of what I want. She’ll get credit for the work as well. 🙂

See you all on the flipside and don’t forget your towel and sonic screwdriver!!

30 Days of NaNoWriMo – Day 12

Today’s word count was pretty low – 2,919, but it still brought my overall count up to 44,507 so it wasn’t all bad. This is a transitory scene so not much beefing can be done or it goes to crap.

Tomorrow begins three days of write-ins so I hope to have more to report then.

My event goal is almost reached, but I am still not done with the story. I will continue to the end and then, I’ll be tweaking the story until the end of the event. The word goal is just one of my goals this month. Please, remember this is the third draft of this story, not the first so I’m mostly doing the beefing up part and then, I’ll be doing the fine points. My goal is to have a book ready to publish by the end of the event.

See you on the flipside and don’t forget your towel and sonic screwdriver!!

30 Days of NaNoWriMo – Day 11

My word count dropped again today – it was 3,214 when I was done. While this does bring my overall total up to 41,588, I’m not competely satisfied with the count. I wanted to do more.

This said, I have noted many times in this project where I can split chapters and beef them both up so the count is higher overall. There are some scenes I do want to add to once the main project is done. Since I’m projected to hit the event goal of 50,000 words in 3 more days – if my daily word count stays above 3,000 – I’ll have time to do a rework of the overall project.

I plan to split up chapters, beef up scenes and add scenes where needed, and I plan to make sure formatting is the same throughout the entire project. I’m having issues with Crimson Knight right now, and I plan to fix it before Christmas.

As you can see, writing involves more than just stringing words together. 🙂

30 Days of NaNoWriMo – Days 9 & 10

Yes, I’m doing two days today instead of one. That’s because I was so busy yesterday I totally forgot to post about NaNoWriMo and my writing project. It had crossed my mind I could write two separate posts and try to pass one off as having been written, but I couldn’t. I am trying to build a rapport, one of trust and mutual respect with a flavoring of ideas and events we both enjoy. I can’t do that if I lie, and the time stamp would easily make a liar out of me. So, I’m merging the two posts into one…

Monday, 9 November

I wrote 3,550 words bringing my overall total on that day to 34,836. I’ve begun tweaking the formatting of the chaptters as I write too. I made the paragraph indentation too wide in the first 8 chapters using a one inch indent. I’m going to fix those chapters while continuing on with the standard half inch indent from now on.

There wasn’t a write-in scheduled for today by anyone so completed my writing for the day and began researching how to make a simple loom for when I start learning how to weave. I’ll also be able to use if for macrame I do believe. 🙂

Tuesday, 10 November

I wrote 3,538 words today bring my total for my project to 38,374. I made notes on where I want to add a scene and where I want to split the chapter into two separate chapters. It will help things to flow smoothly and no slow down too much. I’m not happy I didn’t write more, but there’s still time for the additions I have planned once I get the initial goal reached.

I missed today’s write-in because I was busy doing research on industry in the 1930s in New York. I like to have some reality woven into my stories. It gives them more depth, I think. Anyway, I was reading and taking notes, forgetting all about the write-in until it was over. There’s a replay, but the live show is more entertaining and helpful.

I did fix the formatting on the first two chapters – it was niggling at me to do so. I didn’t want to forget to do it and end up with a mess like I’m dealing with in regards to Crimson Knight.

That’s all for today folks, I’ll see you on the flipside so don’t forget your towel and sonic screwdriver!!!
