I have had no issues using this extension and in some cases, I like it even more than Google. I know you have questions about this browser extension and so, I’m adding a link to an article written by someone who has had the same concerns as myself and others I know personally as has done the research.
The author of this piece, Nick Hastreiter has done his homework on the organization behind the extension as well as on the extension itself. I like the results I get from the search engine especially since I don’t need to wade through a ton of ads like I do on Google when I want information on something. If I were looking to buy, that would be one thing, but Google assumes that’s what I’m doing no matter what I’m searching for. It’s annoying. Ecosia doesn’t do that.
I also admire what Ecosia is doing with the money they do make from the use of the extension – planting trees is the main goal, but they have other projects as well. All of their projects are for the betterment of the environment and people, and I’m all for that.
Please, read the article and then, do some research of your own. While I do recommend this browser, I don’t want you taking my word for it. I would never tell you what to do. Do the research so you can make an informed decision on your own. You are the only one who can decide what’s best for you.
