Vacation 2022 Countdown: 7 More Days to Texas Haunted Roadtrip!

We plan to leave very early – like 3-4 am – on Monday 3 Oct. heading for El Paso Texas. Our plan is still fluid. We’re following one road down from El Paso to Galveston with stops planned on the way. We might stay 2 nights in El Paso just to look around since I haven’t been since I was a child, and Joe has never been. Same thing with San Antonio, but that’s still up in the air. We will stay one night at least.

If you live along our route or within say 25 miles from it in any direction, and you think there are places we should check out, feel free to comment below! I’m sure Joe would love new areas to stream. 🙂

El Paso will be the longest drive as we don’t plan on stopping on our way there. We have plenty to see on the way down and around.

I’m just so excited! 😀

If you’d like to buy us coffee, or a tank of gas, please use the form below. I also have Chime, PayPal and Cash App so message me for more information if you’d like to use any of those instead.

Saturday Stitching: The Land Baby – a Finish!(Of Sorts)

The Land Baby by John Collier(1895) was turned into a cross stitch chart by someone (I have no idea who or when), and it was posted online as a series of images to be used for free. There are pdf versions others have created, and you have to pay for those. I’m using the free images. So, the painting was split into half – left and right. I’ve been working on the left.

Here is what she looked like last time I posted:

This is being worked on 16 count white Aida in the called for DMC colors. I forget how big she’s supposed to be, but on this count she’s not that big.

Here is what she looks like now:

The entire left side of the piece is now complete. I am going to be putting it away for the rest of 2022 and resume work on it at the beginning of 2023. I’ve been working on it almost from the beginning of 2022, and I need a break to get other projects done.

I have really enjoyed working on her, and I love how she’s turning out, The amount of detail in it without requiring back stitching is just amazing to me.

While I’m saying “see you later” to her, I still have plenty of other projects to show you including the ongoing Mystery Stitch-A-Long, Changing Seasons provided by Fox and Rabbit. I also have several smalls, and a new start which I’ll be showing you next week. 🙂

Until then, happy stitching!

See you on the flipside and don’t forget your towel and sonic screwdriver!!

Vacation 2022 Countdown: 14 days to Haunted Texas Road Trip!

I am really looking forward to this trip! It’s going to be a lot of driving, but there will be plenty of stops on the way once we get to El Paso and start the journey there. It’s about 12 hours to El Paso if we follow the route on the map, but we’re not. We’re going straight to El Paso and then, we’ll follow the map. I plan to find the fastest route there. 🙂

My son. Joe, had originally planned to only live stream us checking out haunted sites but now, he has the bright idea of doing a kind of Subathon for his Twitch channel where he will livestream for so many minutes for each new subscriber he gets. His channel is:

https://www.twitch.tv/grimcommando95

He’s been streaming for two years now, and I’m so glad he’s stuck with it despite how slow it’s been to build up followers. It is an adult only stream as he curses, drinks(at times) and is just himself. He also streams games he plays with others and is always happy to play with someone new. He likes to try out new games too.

We’re going to be taking turns driving, and we’ll set up the phone as best we can to stream if/when it comes time to stream our actual traveling.

I’ll be posting pictures myself on a daily basis. I’m going to try to embed video as well, if I can figure out how. I’ll be focusing mainly on what we see at the haunted sites, if anything.

If you’d like to buy me a coffee/pay for a gallon of gas, feel free to use the form below and choose whatever amount you want to donate. Every penny is greatly appreciated!

Saturday Stitching: Land Baby Pt. 10

Here is what she looked like the last time I talked about her:

Land Baby

As you can see, I still had a lot to go to finish the left side of the overall piece. It’s being done on 18 ct white Aida by the way. I’m using all the called for DMC floss as well.

Here is what she looks like now:

Not much left now. I’m pretty sure I’ll be done with her by this time next week. I hope so anyway. It’s taken me almost a year just to do this half of the overall piece. In my defense, I am no longer a monogamous stitcher so, I’ve spent time working on other projects besides her.

This said, I’m focusing solely on her until this part is finished. I’m just too close not to.

See you on the flipside and don’t forget your towel and sonic screwdriver!!!

Vacation 2022 Countdown: 21 days to Texas Haunted Roadtrip

How haunted it’s actually going to be is anyone’s guess!

Joe is all ready to stream our trip, and his followers are quite excited! I’ll be posting here with pictures as well!

I’ve already booked our first hotel. We’ll be staying in motels and hotels along the way so we can sleep for a few hours before checking out the haunted sites.

If you have any suggestions for where we should go, we’re going to be traveling from El Paso down to San Antonio and then on down to Galveston where we hope to go on a tour of The Hotel Galvez.

In El Paso, we’ll be trying to get a glimpse of La Llorona. She’s a grief stricken guilt ridden woman who drowned her own children to please a man, was rejected for doing so by same man and ended up drowning herself.

In Marfa, we’ll try to see The Marfa Lights. These are ghost lights seen from a bridge or something. Will be interesting.

In Seguin there’s a ghost at Woman Hollering Creek: She’s like the El Paso ghost.

In San Antonio, we hope to see The Saintly School Children. Apparently a bus full of school kids from a local Catholic school stalled on some train tracks while a train was coming. Everyone but the nun in charge was killed. It’s said if anyone stops on the tracks, the kids will push their vehicle off the tracks.

Goliad has Presidio La Bahia. This is a famous battle ground here in Texas and is said to be full of ghosts.

We end in Galveston at the Hotel Galvez.

We don’t actually end there. We’re picking Em up and circling around to Dallas so Joe and Em can visit some friends and so we can check out several hotels in the area.

As I said, if you live along this route and want us to check out some of your local hotspots for the paranormal, feel free to leave suggestions in the comments below.

If you’d like to buy me a cup of coffee to help me drive, please use the form below! I’ll greatly appreciate it!

Saturday Stitching: FFO and Small Update

FFO Front
FFO Back

FFO!!

This is the piece I designed and made for Mad Morti over on Flosstube. She’s a Goth, and I thought she’d like something like this mini biscornu to use for needles or whatnot. I found gridded clip art of both the skulls and the bats, and I adapted them to my needs. I think it turned out quite nice. 🙂

I’ll have to use something for scale next time as it’s not a very big piece. I plan to do one last mini biscornu – on for her husband, David, and it’s going to be my own design again.

Small Update

This is a Mill Hill beaded kit: Tiny Treasured Diamond Beaded Kit with Treasures – Royal Orchid(MH22-3305).

It’s worked on 28 count even weave 2 over 2. I think the color of the fabric is Orchid. The purple is Dark Lavender, and the green is Green. LOL

It’s 47 stitches wide by 47 stitches high which measure out to 3.36in w by 3.36in h. That’s not counting the hanger and tassel.

I’m doing the cross stitching first and then, I’ll do the beading. It’s meant to be sewn into an ornament so that should be fun. 🙂

Next week, you’ll finally get a look at where I am on Land Baby. I’ve been trying my best to get stitching done on her as well. I have about 4 more sections of 10 stitches by 40 stitches before the entire left side is done.

Vacation 2022 Countdown: Texas Haunted Roadtrip

My son and I are taking most of my vacation this year together with Em, his lovely girlfriend, joining us for the last couple of days.

I like sharing my trips with people, makes it more fun that way, and Joe, my son, wanted something new for his stream on Twitch. We also both wanted to do a Texas Haunted Road Trip. It made sense to turn my vacation time into a road trip he’ll be streaming live, and I’ll take pictures and post some videos for you all to enjoy as well.

There are several different maps posted over the years pointing out haunted places in Texas to visit, We both agree to begin in El Paso since it’s the farthest point out from where we live. This is the map I’m looking at:

We’re planning on heading along the lower portion of the map so we end up back in Lufkin in time to pick up Em before heading up to Dallas. We’ll be stopping at different places along the way. If you live anywhere along the route or within like 50 miles of it, and you know some places said to be haunted, let me know in the comments below. We’ll make time to hit them up and give you credit for sending us that way whatever happens. 🙂

I am excited to try this. I enjoy new places and driving so it’s a win win with me. Cherry on top is doing this with my son and his GF. My vacation starts on 3 October, a Monday and goes for an entire week – plenty of time for rest breaks during the day and ghost hunting at night!

See you on the flipside and don’t forget your towel and sonic screwdriver!!

Saturday Stitching: MSAL – August

I had meant to post this back in August, but time got away from me.

This is the August design for Fox and Rabbit’s Mystery Stitch A Long called Changing Seasons. September’s design has already dropped, and I’m trying to figure out colors before I start stitching it.

There are gaps where stitching is supposed to go, but I found some bling I want to add to it instead. This piece is meant to be a wall hanging(that’s my intention at any rate) so adding bling won’t hurt it.

I kept to a three color theme like I’ve done with the other blocks, and I’m going to use at least one color in September’s design – like I’ve done with all the others.

I’m actually glad I decided to do this year’s MSAL from Fox and Rabbit instead of skipping as originally intended. It’s turning out to be quite beautiful. This said, I am going to skip the one for 2023 because I have too many other projects I want to get done. I’m behind on the Land Baby, and one reason is the MSAL. The other is my work schedule.

I need to have more time, not less of it, to work on my main full coverage projects so, this will be where I draw the line.

Next week, you get to see where I am on Land Baby now. The left side of the piece is nearing completion finally! 🙂
