30 Days of Golden Knave – Day 16

I had a bit of trouble writing the scene today. I wasn’t sure how long I should play out Vice’s recovery time. His story is playing out at the same time as Kitya’s, and I don’t want him arriving too early or too late to the ball. I’m trying to be realistic about travel times and recovery times as well – that’s just me. I use magic, but it’s not that fun if everything is solved by magic. Sandel has gone AWOL again anyway so there’s that too. Temple cleric with healing hands? I think Vice’s roaming hands might get in the way.:-)

I did finally figure things out, and I was able to get about 1200 words in the morning sprint. I didn’t get my second sprint in because I had to go run errands with the boys. Still, I got words added to the overall story so I’m happy.

30 Days of Golden Knave – Day 15 – Halfway!

Today I’m halfway to the 30 day mark!! While I haven’t done anywhere near as well as I did during the NaNoWriMo event, I think I’ve still done quite well!

I will tally up the word count on Friday to let everyone know where I am. This tally will only be the words I’ve written since I started. At the end, I’ll let you know what my final count is including where I was when I started this personal event.

Unfortunately, I was only able to use 500 of the many words I wrote today because both my Inner Critic and my Inner Editor were running amok. They ruined my flow, and it was quite frustruating. I am still learning how to keep them away from my work until they’re needed. A second draft is not the time for them. Still, there’s always tomorrow!

30 Days of Golden Knave – Day 14

I got two writing sprints in, and Vice’s story might just end up at 50,000 words! It just keeps flowing, and I’m not fighting it. I wrote a wonderful fight scene that might son even liked so that’s a plus.

I got around 1,600 words in the morning sprint. The boys were busy playing Call of Duty together so the roommate wasn’t bothering me. I had a great session and felt great at the end of it.

During the second session, I topped out at 2,200 words!! At the end, Vice is wounded and is certain Shadow is going to eat him.:-) I love when I get accidental humor in my stories.I am not a funny person – I have an odd sense of humor a lot of people don’t get. It’s not always appropriate either. Anyway, it’s a surprise to me when people read over something I’ve written and find it funny.

I’m looking forward to tomorrow when I get in another two writing sprints!

30 Days of Golden Knave – Day 13

I was only able to get one word sprint in today. It seems like during the week, everybody wants to bother you when you have things to do that don’t include them. I am having to live with my youngest son and his roommate right now, and his roommate kept wanting to come into the room where I was trying to write to talk to me. He didn’t want to talk about anything important either! I know he was bored and my son wasn’t paying him any attention because he was busy too so, he decided to bother me instead.

Despite his throwing me off my game, I managed to scratch out 600 words before I gave up due to sheer frustruation. I had to go for a walk to calm down else I would’ve lost my temper, and it just wasn’t something I wanted to do. The boy can’t help he was raised so selfish and needy.

Tomorrow will, hopefully, be a better day.

30 Days of Golden Knave – Day 12

This was the second day of my DIY MFA hosted Writing Sprint Weekend.

I didn’t do that well during the first one hour sprint. My Inner Editor kept getting out of the closet and making me rewrite big chunks of scenes as I was trying to write them. It was quite annoying, and I was glad when the hour was up. I got about 800 words written.

I had to start my second sprint a lot sooner than I planned because family notified me they were coming to visit- at the time of this post they have still not shown up – so I moved up my writing session. This one was more productive, and I actually am in the process of throwing in a bit of backstory on Vice via a dream.:-) I think it will help flesh out his story a bit more, maybe make him a bit more relatable and likeable. We’ll see how it goes. I’m quite pleased to say my Inner Editor wasn’t able to get out of the basement where I put them so I was able to get 1,200 words done in an hour.

I still need to up my game to get to my proposed goal, but I don’t think I’ll be hitting 50k words for his story, My revised goal is 30,000 words for Vice and around 20,000 words for the ending. I’m not sure if things will go as planned, but we’ll see.

30 Days of Golden Knave – Day 11

Today was the first day of Word Sprint Weekend hosted by DIY MFA, and I had a great time. I watched three great little videos which helped get me writing and helped me end the day well.

I had two writing sprints. The first was one hour and fifteen minutes long. I hand wrote 1,800 words, and I finished the scene I was working on. Vice and his group have now left the Golden Duchess and are in town, traveling by land once again.

The second writing sprint was an hour long. It would’ve been a bit longer, but I needed to pee very badly. I wrote about 1,600 words this time. I have set up part of the ending with this scene, and I’ve given Vice some incentive to develop a better strategy than he’d had.

All in all, it was a good day.

Oh yes, for those who care about this sort of thing, my writing music playlist is Power Metal Collection 1 & 4 found on Youtube. This music really stirs me when I’m writing fantasy.

30 Days of Golden Knave – Days 9 and 10

Day 9

I had family come to visit so I didn’t get any writing done at all. I don’t see my family a lot, except my youngest son so it’s important to me I spend as much time with them as I can when I am with them.

Day 10

I had a great time writing. I got another 1000 words done. I am so looking forward to the Word Sprint Weekend starting tomorrow! It will help me get more work done as I get back into the habit of sprinting twice a day and not just once like I’m doing now.

30 Days of Golden Knave – Day 8

I didn’t get as much writing done as I have in the past few days. I was able to get about 800 words done before I gave up trying. I just couldn’t get into it.

The reason was because I am working on completing a crocheting project I’d begun around this time last year. I was finally able to get some black yarn – I haven’t been buying craft supplies since Covid began I’ve been using up what I have. With the black yarn, I’m completing the assembly of a scrapghan, and it’s taking me some time because it takes so long to connect little squares into strips and then connect the strips into a larger piece.

It also takes a while when you’re watching Darkest Raven Designs on Youtube and get drawn into one of her projects. The woman, Chantal, is amazing, and I wish I had just a tiny bit of her talent! I love her work, and I like how we both like Poe and Victoriana.

30 DaIys of Golden Knave – Day 7

For some reason my posts are not publishing the same day I post them despite the system telling me they are. I keep having to change the dates on my posts because of it. I’ll have to check my settings before I say something to the tech team.

Today, I had another good day – got another 1,500 words written. I am looking to double that amount once I get into the habit of doing two word sprints a day again. I am still behind in my word count goal.

I am looking forward to this weekend no matter what I get to do. 🙂 Both things I might do are things I want to do so it’s all good.

30 Days of Golden Knave – Day 6

I was able to get 1000 words written today. The new scene has worked out really well. 🙂 I have found a new track to run on, and I’m going to see where it leads me.

I have to credit DIY MFA for my productivity today. I have a word sprint weekend coming up, and I felt so inspired and excited by it I started sprinting today. I am going to have to do a special acknowledgement of the site and its founder in the book when it’s done.:-)
