Saturday Stitching: The Land Baby – a Finish!(Of Sorts)

The Land Baby by John Collier(1895) was turned into a cross stitch chart by someone (I have no idea who or when), and it was posted online as a series of images to be used for free. There are pdf versions others have created, and you have to pay for those. I’m using the free images. So, the painting was split into half – left and right. I’ve been working on the left.

Here is what she looked like last time I posted:

This is being worked on 16 count white Aida in the called for DMC colors. I forget how big she’s supposed to be, but on this count she’s not that big.

Here is what she looks like now:

The entire left side of the piece is now complete. I am going to be putting it away for the rest of 2022 and resume work on it at the beginning of 2023. I’ve been working on it almost from the beginning of 2022, and I need a break to get other projects done.

I have really enjoyed working on her, and I love how she’s turning out, The amount of detail in it without requiring back stitching is just amazing to me.

While I’m saying “see you later” to her, I still have plenty of other projects to show you including the ongoing Mystery Stitch-A-Long, Changing Seasons provided by Fox and Rabbit. I also have several smalls, and a new start which I’ll be showing you next week. 🙂

Until then, happy stitching!

Blog Sharing: The Artist’s Studio

I read this blog post recently, and it touched me. I know a lot of people who have mental issues they struggle with every day, and if I can offer them yet one more way they might find helpful in that struggle, I am happy to share. The author of this post was kind enough to share a bit of their own struggle with the world and offer yet another way to try to make it through. I would have simply reblogged the post, but the page didn’t have the option for that. I won’t be presumptuous and rude enough to copy and paste it to this page. Instead, I’m going to post the link and hope you will read the post yourself.

How Pottery Helped My PTSD

The post is well worth the read, but you don’t have to take my work for it. Please, let him know what you think of his post and his work, I’m sure he’d love the feedback.

I’ll see you on the flipside and don’t forget your towel and sonic screwdriver!!

Art, Writing, and the Pursuit of Expression

Another interesting blog to share!

Death would have been better…

If only for a fleeting span…

Clouded, blind, and flailing.

Moments, like days, can trip near any foot. Toe-catchers we’ll call them. There is something unique about moments, they lie beyond measured time, they endure minutes. The painting above has something to do with that, in an obscure, far-off, and unexplained way…

There are moments that bend toward a drawn out stuckness, a mire of trapping, that elusive span of time can grab hold and dwell. Some should be held. Others still, hold darker lingerings.

Why do I write? Or paint?

It’s because of these very moments… the ones that threaten who we wish to be, those breaths where everything seems to snatch away… and sometimes do. When we are left with only ourselves.

I write for the notion of expression. For the harried moments that breathe life into a heart-wrecked soul.

This painting is…

Artist Review: Ava Sol

I am actually not sure what to call this post as it’s about the artwork of Ava Sol, and not the artist herself. Still, the work is inspiring and incredibly beautiful. I wasn’t able to contact the artist and get permission to include one of her pieces since I began writing this on the spot after seeing her work, but I will definitely post a link where you can view her work and maybe, order a print.

Ava Sol Artwork

I encourage you to view her work! It’s definitely something different. Let us both know what you think of her work. Suggestions for what to title review posts of artwork would be greatly appreciated!!
