Blog Share #3 – unbolt me the literary asylum

First off, I love the name of the blog. It’s very evocative. Don’t you think so?

The blog is bold and doesn’t hold back. I find it’s a delicious feast of words and imagery. I followed a “Click Me” plea (something I don’t usually do), and it led me to a place where I can buy some pretty cool blog related swag! TETIANA ALEKSINA & TONY SINGLE are the ones apparently in charge of the literary asylum, and I encourage you to take a trip! You can go here to step through the doors. I dare you. I double dog dare you. NO, I TRIPLE dog dare you!! LOL I don’t think you’ll regret it.

I really am quite taken with this blog. It’s uncensored so not for anyone under 16, at least. No, I didn’t find any porn on there, but this site encourages open and honest, fearless speech. It exorts you to share your thoughts and ideas in whatever form they take, raw or polished.

Vulgarity becomes rich prose as it bares the soul of the writer speaking in their most natural way. Pain becomes a salve that heals. The raw becomes refined in the waters of acceptance and encouragement to share. I wax a bit poetic perhaps, but I’m allowed. I highly recommend this blog, and I hope you will feel free to share some of your own work to it. I am thinking of doing that very thing when I have some time.

Again, check out unbolt me

See you on the flipside and don’t forget your towel and sonic screwdriver!

Personal Update – March 20

The world is under attack by a virus – something that acts like the flu but is much worse. It hits people over 60 and those with chronic conditions that weaken their immune systems harder than anyone else. New cases pop up all the time it seems, and the death toll is rising. Countries are closing their borders, banning travel out of, into and through out their lands. The media is having a field day reporting only bad news and not really sharing the good news. The good news, more people have recovered from this virus than have died from it. You don’t hear about that though.

I am one of those who are “at risk” as I take a medication that suppresses my immune system. I tested positive for the virus, the COVID-19, and I’m on self isolation until I either recover or get worse which will mean quarantine at an air force base in Houston Texas, or possibly Beaumont. I haven’t asked about that because I don’t think I’m going to be that bad. I hope not at any rate.

Keeping Busy:

My Pretty Futon

This is what the futon in my livinroom looks like with my last two projects on it. The plush is the Valentine’s gift my gentleman friend got for me because he knows how much I like cats. He’s so sweet! I have decided to go through my bookmarks and make the projects on those pages. I have quite a few bookmarks so it’s going to take me a while. Currently, I have two afghans and a body pillow in the works. When I run out of yarn, I have crochet thread I can work with. 🙂

Work: I had to quit my job. Not just because I have an infectios virus but because I could get sick again working there. The company doesn’t provide paid sick days. It penalizes you for missing even a single day, and it doesn’t excuse more than one or two days even with doctor excuses. People come to work with the common cold, flu, bronchitis, even pneumonia with several I only heard about!! The place is kept cold, sure, but I am susceptible to even the smallest, most benign of these conditions. My doctor advised me I needed to find a different job or I risk getting sick again. The second time might not be so gentle on me.

Cooking:

Mediterranean style Pierogis

I found a recipe for pierogis online, and I love pierogis so I decided to make some. The recipe said I could use anything for the filling if I didn’t want to go traditional. I didn’t have any potatoes or sausage so, I used what I had. I diced up two different kinds of squash, some yellow onion and some mushrooms. I used ricotta cheese as well. The sauce is Tahini sauce, just a little thicker than what you find in restaurants. I love the smoky taste of the roasted sesame seed this sauce has, and it was perfect for the pierogis!! I’m going to make more when I can get more flour and some potatoes for a more traditional dish. Next experiment: Korean pancakes!!

Writing: I’m doing some freelance writing while I slowly put the second draft of Golden Knave on the computer. I don’t really like typing on a computer, but I’m getting better at it from all the stuff I’m doing. I’m learning a lot about freelancing, and I might write some posts about my experiences, if anyone is interested. Let me know, please.

Randomness: I tried watching Harrow, but I’m having a hard time relating to the man, Harrow, himself. I can’t stand his girlfriend, one of the others in the ensemble cast. I don’t like how she behaves. The rest of the cast is okay. I watched three episodes of Manifest and lost interest. I watched half of the first season of 9-1-1, and I like it.

I’ve also read the book before the newest one by J.D. Robb, and I’ll write a review for it soon.

I watched a couple of movies, The Osiris Child and the 10th Kingdom. I’ll write reviews for them too.

Not much else is going on right now since I’m stuck inside, but I’ll try to keep writing articles for you to read. 🙂

See you on the flipside and don’t forget your towel and sonic screwdriver!!

Personal Update – 18 July, 2018

I actually had to check to see which month we were in. 🙂

Lots of things going on in my life right now.

Didn’t get the dental surgery I was supposed to get.  The dental surgeon not being there was the biggest reason, but the official reason is my jaw isn’t strong enough yet to handle the bigger pins.  This means waiting until November just to be reevaluated!  It bites, but I don’t want the pins to come out this time so, I’m doing everything I’m told for once.

I quit my job.  I wasn’t all that happy in it to begin with – was having to make myself go, which says a lot right there.

My dearest friend, Sandra, is dying of Stage 4 Cervical cancer which has spread in the form of tumors all over her abdomen and neck.  She’s barely eating because of the tumors pressing on her colon and stomach.  She’s lost a lot of weight, has a nurse coming in at least once a week to check on her and make sure she has what she needs.  The doctors have given up trying to “cure” her and are just trying to make her comfortable as she nears the end.  They had given her a year, but in the few short months since they stopped all treatment, she’s gone downhill fast.  The nurse and her husband, Claude, who is also a friend of mine, don’t think she’ll make it to Thanksgiving.  I agree.

Since I told them I left my job, they’ve asked me to move in and be Sandra’s sitter.  She needs someone to be with her when Claude is at work, and the lady who was originally supposed to do it has not worked out.  I have applied to the hospice where she is registered for care, to see about being paid to be her sitter, but I’d do it for free simply because she needs me.  She’s the type of friend, and person, I’d do anything for.

They don’t have internet at their house since they live in a rural area, not yet anyway, so after this post, I won’t be online for a while.  This means no more posts from me for a bit.  I’ll do my best to get back on whenever I can, but Sandra is my main focus.

I’ll write blogs on paper and save them up for when I get back 😀  Then, you’ll see so many posts from me you’ll wish I would go offline again. lol

See you on the flipside and don’t forget your towel and sonic screwdriver.  Anyone seen my car?

Naming Blog Posts

I don’t know how some people do it – make snappy titles for their blog posts.  Me, I’m like, what the hell do I call this post?  Book review posts are no brainers, as are review posts for movies and television shows.  I can just do Personal Update and the date for updating you on my life since I last wrote an update – another no brainer really.

But how about for a post like this one?  Or like the one I wrote about the almost surreal walk home I had last week?  Titles that catch a reader’s attention.  I have issues trying to title my own books, much less my blog posts!

How do you do it – those of you who write blogs?  How do you come up with titles?

I guess I’ll just do the best I can while I do more research into the subject – there’s plenty out there I’m sure.  Everyone wants to teach everyone how to write a blog and monetize it.  Everyone but me.  I just like writing, and I don’t care( not really) if I don’t make money from the posts I write.

See you all on the flipside and don’t forget your towel and sonic screwdriver!

Personal Update – June 5, 2018

Public: Hello there! Nice to see you so soon after your last post!

Me: Hi!  Yep, I’m scheduling more time for blogging, but I’m not going to do it every day like I was because it becomes too much like a chore and isn’t much fun.

Public: We fully understand.  So, what’s new?

Me: I took down my Etsy store – I hated the name was the main reason.  I’ll open another one when I’ve had some time to really do some research.  I can’t afford to put money into something that isn’t going to do much.

Public: We don’t think anyone does. Are you still making things for charity?

Me: Oh yes!  I’ve just sent off a bag full of  hats, nearly finished a lapghan, and I’m getting ready to make more squares for two granny lapghans I’m working on.

Public: Have you heard back about The Inbetween yet?

Me: No, but the submission said I’d hear back by the end of June so, still waiting.  I’ve scheduled time to work on Mr. Nobody so I can get it on Wattpad by the end of the month.  I’ve decided not to make it into a full novel because the story just won’t gel for me.

Public: At least you’ll be writing again.

Me: Very true.  I’m also making time for reading, and I’m about to start on Jeffrey Deaver’s Solitude Creek.

Public: Sounds interesting.

Me: I hope it is.  Well, I’ve got to go, I’ve got to work tonight so I need to get some sleep.

Catch you all on the flipside and don’t forget your towels and sonic screwdrivers!!

A Book Review

Well it was what I had planned on writing for this posting but then, when I sat down to write about a book I’d finally found time to finish, I went blank.

I actually have had very little sleep today since I had to stay up after work this morning to go run errands until almost noon.  Then, I had issues going to sleep – the world outside my door and window is very loud at times – so there was that.  I got maybe five hours of sleep which is supposed to be great.  Me, however, I take a medication for my medical condition which zonks me out, once I get fully asleep and waking up is almost as hard as going to sleep.  I know, cry me a river why don’t you.

Still, I’m going to say a few words about the book and later, I may do a full blown review – I haven’t decided yet.  Here it goes:

Blue Labyrinth by Preston and Child is a good book.  I have read them before, but I didn’t like their main “good guy” Aloysius Pendergast.  He’s grown on me since reading this book so I’m going to go back and read the beginning book – when I can find it.  I recommend it for those of you who like a good “what the hell is going on” book.

As always, don’t take my word for it.  Read the book yourself.  Following someone blindly will only get you run into a wall, or worse.  I merely give you my own honest opinion about something, and it’s up to you to listen or not.

So, it’s that time again.  I need to get ready for work soon.  I’ll see you on the flipside and don’t forget your towel and sonic screwdriver.

Hi There!

No, I didn’t forget to check myself and ended up wrecking myself. Nor did I fall off the edge of the world like some clueless Flat Earthers believe.

What happened is, since I was last here, I’ve been busy working two jobs – my job at the fast food joint and my job with my Etsy shop.  I’ve had a couple of big projects for the Etsy shop which have been completed so I have more free time – Free Time? What is this Free Time you speak of? 😀

I am now working on my time management skills so I get do what I need to do and still have time to do it all.  I tend to keep my days full because I suffer from ADD and from Depression.  If I don’t stay busy, first I get bored and fidgety, then I get depressed – it’s not a pretty sight I assure you.

Still, I’m getting back into the swing of things – even found some time to do some writing – besides blogging that is.

I’ll most likely be blogging right after I get home from work, like I’m doing now.  Please, be gentle with me since I’m not known for making sense when I’m worn out.  Still, I will do my best. 🙂

See you all on the flipside and don’t forget your towel and sonic screwdriver!!
