Free Pattern Friday: Tablecloth Pt 6

I am learning some more new stitches. One of them, the star stitch, I’ve never even heard of! For those of you who are new here, I am adapting an afghan pattern called Rings of Change into a tablecloth using all the crochet thread in my stash I can. These threads are all sizes and colors, and I’m doing my best to arrange the colors as pleasing as possible.

This pattern is a paid pattern found on Ravelry and created by Frank O’Randle. He has the first 42 rounds of this 112 round pattern made into Mini Rings of Change, and it’s free.

Here is what the star stitch looks like on my piece:

In the above picture, you see Fan Stitch on the very top, next one down are ch2 and ch1 spaces and single crochets. The third line which you can barely see is made up of all double crochets. The next row down are the Star Stitches. Personally, I don’t think they look like stars…

Since Mr. O’Randle’s written instructions on how to make the star stitch left much to be desired, I went elsewhere to find out how to create this stitch, and I found it on my go to site: The Spruce Crafts

The above is the picture of her swatch of star stitches. I still don’t see any stars….

After the Fan Stitch which, I have made before, comes the Double Treble Stitch. I have never had cause to use this stitch, and it’s going to be a thread eater. Still, I have a full ball of green thread I can use for this row.

I’m up to row 62 now with another 50 to go, I think. Something like that. I may add some extra rows to give it more length. I’m going to start taking picture of it draped over the table I’m making it for so you can gauge my progress better that way. 🙂

Free Pattern Friday: Tablecloth based on Rings of Change by Frank O’Randle Pt. 2

The above is where I’m at in the pattern right now. I just started Row 39 out of 111 rows. I decided to get the full pattern and work on it until I ran out of thread. I’m using up scrap thread I’ve been given over the past 5 years. None of the thread has labels on them, and while I’m trying to stay in the size 20 range, the multi colored purple is a size 10.

It’s going to be interesting when it’s finally done, and I’m going to enjoy using it.

The pattern is called Rings of Change, and it’s available on Ravelry from designer Frank O’Randle. He is a fantastic designer and has 67 patterns using the “of Change” name.

The stitches used in the newer areas are fans made from triple crochet and inverted V-stitches. It’s now how difficult the stitches are(most are basic), it’s how he uses the stitches to make some beautiful designs.

I usually don’t repeat patterns, but I might do this in worsted weight yarn to make a round blanket or rug some time in the future.

After I complete Row 39 I will be putting the project on hold because I finally got it in:

Sock Yarn!

Yes, I got the three cakes of sock yarn I ordered so I will be making socks for three co-workers who offered to be my guinea pigs as I learn something new. 🙂 I’ll be using the same pattern, but I’ll be using three different colorways and two different yarns. I hope to have at least one sock done by next week. If I have a full pair done, I’ll be very happy.

Edging for an Altar Cloth

I’m attempting to create an edging for an altar cloth using a pattern from 1915. It’s a crocheted edging, and I know the stitches required to make the edging so no worries there.

The issue lies with the instructions of the pattern. It’s in British English from that time period. This means, some words are hard to translate into modern terms. The other issue is that this edging uses the same pattern as another edging minus one of the motifs. This means I have to decipher where to omit the one motif so it looks like the picture.

Long story short, I’m starting to get a bit stressed with this project. What should have been an afternoon’s work is turning out to be so much more!

I’m also developing a strong dislike for this edging. I know I won’t be doing it again for a long, long time – once I figure it out.
