Vacation 2022: Haunted Texas Roadtrip Day 2

Today, we headed down to Huntsville Texas which is about an hour and 20 minute drive from the house and then, we headed over to Bowden Road aka Demon’s Road. We got a late start so it was already dark when we got there.

The place has a serious creep factor, and that was before we got out of the car. It’s another dirt road like Bragg Road, but it’s said to have more activity than Bragg. Bragg has trees that cross over the road creating a canopy in places. We didn’t go down the road that far, but the trees didn’t come that close to the road.

I don’t have any photos of our time there. We got out of the car, got our cameras out, and I took some photos while my son started taping. We had no cell service so he couldn’t live stream just like on Bragg Road.

As soon as I started taping, my phone completely died. I mean, just dead. No battery warning or anything. My son was using a flashlight as well as his phone, and the flashlight died right after my phone did. He asked me if I saw something down the road, and I couldn’t see anything it was so dark. His phone died a second later, and he said he felt himself get shoved.

He said it wasn’t hard, more of a “get a move on” type shove. He’d walked several yards in front of the car, and I had stayed by the front of the car. As I turned to walk to the driver’s side, I heard something hit the hood of the car, like a slap. My son was too far away to have touched the car.

We got both got in the car as fast as we could, and the car didn’t want to start at first. I’d turned the car off, no headlights or anything so the battery wasn’t drained – shouldn’t have been.

Needless to say, we got out of there as fast we could. When we got home, there were no pictures or video on either phone though I’m sure the pictures I’d taken had been saved.

I have no explanation for what happened. I didn’t see anything on the photos I took, and Joe says he didn’t see anything when he was taping. I can’t say for sure the place is haunted, but it was creepy. It was also a bit unnerving. I didn’t stay long enough to be scared properly, but I’m sure it was the right thing to do.

We plan to go back again, and we hope to be able to record something when we do.

Tomorrow night, we’re planning to stay at the Excelsior Hotel in Jefferson Texas.

Vacation 2022 Countdown: 14 days to Haunted Texas Road Trip!

I am really looking forward to this trip! It’s going to be a lot of driving, but there will be plenty of stops on the way once we get to El Paso and start the journey there. It’s about 12 hours to El Paso if we follow the route on the map, but we’re not. We’re going straight to El Paso and then, we’ll follow the map. I plan to find the fastest route there. 🙂

My son. Joe, had originally planned to only live stream us checking out haunted sites but now, he has the bright idea of doing a kind of Subathon for his Twitch channel where he will livestream for so many minutes for each new subscriber he gets. His channel is:

https://www.twitch.tv/grimcommando95

He’s been streaming for two years now, and I’m so glad he’s stuck with it despite how slow it’s been to build up followers. It is an adult only stream as he curses, drinks(at times) and is just himself. He also streams games he plays with others and is always happy to play with someone new. He likes to try out new games too.

We’re going to be taking turns driving, and we’ll set up the phone as best we can to stream if/when it comes time to stream our actual traveling.

I’ll be posting pictures myself on a daily basis. I’m going to try to embed video as well, if I can figure out how. I’ll be focusing mainly on what we see at the haunted sites, if anything.

Vacation 2022 Countdown: 21 days to Texas Haunted Roadtrip

How haunted it’s actually going to be is anyone’s guess!

Joe is all ready to stream our trip, and his followers are quite excited! I’ll be posting here with pictures as well!

I’ve already booked our first hotel. We’ll be staying in motels and hotels along the way so we can sleep for a few hours before checking out the haunted sites.

If you have any suggestions for where we should go, we’re going to be traveling from El Paso down to San Antonio and then on down to Galveston where we hope to go on a tour of The Hotel Galvez.

In El Paso, we’ll be trying to get a glimpse of La Llorona. She’s a grief stricken guilt ridden woman who drowned her own children to please a man, was rejected for doing so by same man and ended up drowning herself.

In Marfa, we’ll try to see The Marfa Lights. These are ghost lights seen from a bridge or something. Will be interesting.

In Seguin there’s a ghost at Woman Hollering Creek: She’s like the El Paso ghost.

In San Antonio, we hope to see The Saintly School Children. Apparently a bus full of school kids from a local Catholic school stalled on some train tracks while a train was coming. Everyone but the nun in charge was killed. It’s said if anyone stops on the tracks, the kids will push their vehicle off the tracks.

Goliad has Presidio La Bahia. This is a famous battle ground here in Texas and is said to be full of ghosts.

We end in Galveston at the Hotel Galvez.

We don’t actually end there. We’re picking Em up and circling around to Dallas so Joe and Em can visit some friends and so we can check out several hotels in the area.

As I said, if you live along this route and want us to check out some of your local hotspots for the paranormal, feel free to leave suggestions in the comments below.

If you’d like to buy me a cup of coffee to help me drive, please use the form below! I’ll greatly appreciate it!

Cargo Literary Magazine – Review

I discovered this lovely site yesterday when I was doing some freelance work. This is an online magazine which “…focuses on narrative and growth through travel and exploration.” – Cargo Literary, About Us page first paragraph and first sentence.

That sentence right there, that part of the sentence actually, is what caught my attention. I’ve never heard of this kind of magazine before, but I don’t read many so, I could be wrong. Has anyone else seen or heard of this kind of magazine, online or in print?? This site offers up perspectives on personal growth through travel, at home and abroad which I think is fantastic!!

The current issue can be found at :https://www.cargoliterary.com

In this issue, there are three poems, two photo essays, a book review, two visual art submissions and three creative nonfiction works. All of these have something to do with personal growth and with travel. One of the photo essays is about the American West, and they are stunning!! The poetry is beautiful, especially the one by Marjory Woodfield called Thumairi Street. She evokes such imagery it’s almost as if I’m there!

I can’t wait for the next issue to come out so I can see what new things are offered!! Don’t take my word for it, check it out yourself!! Cargo Literary at : https://www.cargoliterary.com

Travel Inspiration

I have been having fun visiting the blogs of some of the travelers who have so nicely begun following my own blog though mine is not about traveling per se. Thank you all by the way, each and every one of you wonderfully talented and unique people who are following me! I wasn’t expecting such richness when I began my blog. It’s more me just writing what I want to share, or it was in the beginning. However, I digress. This post is about traveling.

Looking at all the pretty pictures and reading all the lovely stories has me inspired to do some writing. I can’t, obviously, go very far – thank my job mostly for that – but I do want to get out and do a bit of driving! I love to drive – just hit the road and go! Being the person I am, I can’t just go without a plan though. I need to find a place to go to, or a general vicinity. I had once planned just to go to a town about 20 miles away and for once, I decided to take a loop that was supposed to take me closer to where I wanted to go – in theory anyway. I took the wrong exit and ended up in little town I’d never been in before. Best thing to happen to me in a long time!! Their little cafe has the best buttermilk pie I have ever tasted and some of the best catfish in a non coastal town!

Again, I digress but only a little bit this time. My apologies.

As luck would have it, I have a three day weekend coming up this very weekend! I’ll be traveling to visit my gentleman friend and then, I plan to visit a town closer to home called Groveton. It’s a little town, but I’m hoping there’s a library so I can try to get some history on the place. I love visiting places, finding out their history and checking out any old architecture there might be about. I’m doing this on Monday so if there is a library, it’ll be open. It should be anyway, but you never know in a small town.

I’ll be taking pictures I promise! I’ll also be writing about the visit – no matter how it turns out.

All this because of the other travel writers here in my little corner of the blogsphere sharing their own travels with me! Thank you all so much!! I feel so excited and can’t wait to get going!!

King Arthur Virtual Race – Half Way!

I am now half way through my virtual walking race on Yes Fit! I’m logging in a little over a mile every day – mostly at work – and I log in my steps for the day when I get home from work. I’ve been looking at Google Map to see where I am along the route when it updates my progress. 🙂

Currently, my virtual self is on New Road in Boscastle, England. It looks like a lovely little town, and I’m putting it on my bucket list of places to see when I get my passport and can travel abroad. I’m also adding another town my virtual self has passed through called Crackington Haven.

I have 11 miles out of 23.2 left to go, and I’ll keep at it until I’ve gone all the way! My virtual self will be turning on right onto a road that should lead me all the way to Tintagel over the course of next week , week and a half. 🙂

This race has gotten me more active, and I’m feeling quite good about my progress. I actually want to get up and get moving more, and that’s good for my health. I hope this will encourage you to try something, anything, to get moving too. I get a medal once the race is complete – part of the price of the race, and I might order the shirt too. I haven’t decided on that yet. 🙂

I hope everyone has a wonderful evening, what’s left of it, and I’ll see you on the flipside. Don’t forget your towel and sonic screwdriver!!

A sneak peak! — One Chance to See the World

It’s the weekend! I wanted to do a post that will start the New Year as I hope to end it. With blogging. Lots of blogging. But in particular this update will focus on another platform, the beast that is Instagram. Don’t worry if you don’t use it as I will remain on WordPress when […]

A sneak peak! — One Chance to See the World

Pinterest – Obsessive Much?

Yes, I have a Pinterest existence.  I have about a dozen boards, at last count, and they all have at least 5 pins.  Many have lots, lots more.

I just spent the last 30 minutes on Pinterest adding pins mostly to my Travel, Genealogy Research, Cats and Business Development boards.  I think I added at least a dozen pins to each board and would’ve continued had I not forced myself to leave the site!

I can’t seem to help myself!  I get on just to check out a couple of things or to try a pin, and I end up spending anywhere from 15 minutes to an entire hour choosing pins to save, looking at the boards of people I follow and making a short list of pins to try!

Obessed? Could be.  Still, I’ve found a lot of useful information using Pinterest so this is one obsession I’m not going to quit anytime soon. 🙂

See you all on the flipside and don’t forget your towels and sonic screwdrivers!
